North Mead Arranged Mead with Elderberries is made by macerating elderberries in mead. No liqueur or fruit juice is added, but the berries are macerated directly in the mead.
The result is a well-balanced mead with the taste of the fruit at the start, well rounded and delicate; the flavour is not too pronounced and there is a woody finish reminiscent of the smell of the wood of the shrub from which the berries come.
The resultingmead is complex without being heavy.
Enjoy this elderberry mead well chilled, neat or in a cocktail with tonic.
Elderberry is native to Europe, North Africa and Western Asia. Some varieties of elderberry can be poisonous.
Edible elderberries are generally black or dark blue and are harvested in late summer or early autumn.
Elderberries have long been used for their medicinal properties. The berries are rich in vitamins A, B and C, as well as antioxidants. They are renowned for boosting the immune system, relieving cold and flu symptoms, and for their anti-inflammatory effects.
